Genealogy on Internet

It took Dan Jungclas only four years of research to uncover 400 years of his family's history.

He has learned, for example, that his earliest known ancestor, Curt Jungclas, was born in 1575 in Germany and started a bakery. It still flourishes in 16 locations, and still remains in family's hands.

Anyone interested in Dan's ancestry can now view the Jungclas family tree - both German and American branches - online.

But Cincinnatians interested in their own ancestry will be even more intrigued by Dan's Web page - the only one that focuses on local genealogical resources, Northern Kentucky's as well Hamilton County's.

Here for example, you will discover links to church, birth and cemetery records for Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties.

Now residing in Chicago, Dan still calls Cincinnati home, despite the fact that his family left Loveland when he was 4 years old.

He still has relatives here, but what he says that what inspires him about this area - and led him to key genealogical home page on Greater Cincinnati - is the treasure of local information that can be retrieved.

"Some cities bury their records." He reports, "but Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky have had the foresight to make this rich and wonderful heritage available."

Dan credits the Hamilton County Chapter of the Genealogical Society and the Cincinnati Historical Society for having such wonderful resources, many of which are cited on his page.

He is particularly impressed by the fact that the University of Cincinnati library and the Hamilton County library allow searches from anywhere in world via modem. In particular, the Hamilton County and Covington libraries allow online users to type in surnames to search newspaper articles.

Dan also urges users to take advantage of the genealogical information provided by TriState Online.
